Budapest by Segway

You can see and learn so much of a new city with a Segway tour that it is best to plan for your Budapest by Segway tour to be the FIRST thing you do when you arrive. Just as a Hop On Hop Off bus tour, should be at the start of your visit to help you orientate to a new city so too should a Segway tour.

The advantage of a Segway tour is that where as a HOHO bus helps you to identify sights that you might want to come back to, the Segway tour often allows you to satisfactorily cover those sights. The tour guide tells you about what you are seeing. You can ask questions and take photos… tick! After your Segway tour you can look at the list of “must sees” in a city and cross off a bunch of them.

We arrived in Budapest by train in mid afternoon and had already pre-booked an evening Segway tour starting at 6pm. Our chosen provider was a company called Yellow Zebra Tours. Our tour guide Georgia was excellent in her knowledge of Budapest and its history as well as her command of English. The company clearly sets a high standard in training guests in Segway riding techniques. Segways are controlled with a remote device that both turns it on and can set the maximum speed. We began our ride restricted to a staid 8 Km / hour. After Georgia was satisfied that all riders were competent she opened the Segways up to full capacity (up to 24Km /hr). We noticed other companies that didn’t even require helmets to be worn, and who didn’t adjust the Segways to the height of the riders so we felt that we had made a good choice.

After finishing our Budapest by Segway ride (roll?) we found a nice restaurant for dinner and revised and relaxed our plans for the coming days as there was so much that we no longer had to rush around to see having seen it all from a Segway!
